TIMING AND SPACING: ANIMATED COIN IN 3 SHOOTS

For a refresher on Timing and Spacing watch this Ted-ed video The Art of Timing and Spacing. The content at 3:30 is especially relevant to this exercise.

1. Setting Up: Turn on the downshooter, start Dragonframe and set up your lights.

2. Framing the Work: Before animating use your three coins to frame the camera and layout your shoot space.

3. Shoot #1: Even Spacing: Animate in 1's in even increments over 25 frames.

4. Shoot #2: Slow in & Slow out: Take a good look at the image below to get your bearings. The exact distance between frames are less important than getting the general flow.

5. Shoot #3: There and Back Again: Come up with spacing of your own and include a recoil. A punch? A yo-yo? How about a light touch?

What kind of character can you get from your coin simply changing the distance between exposures? *Here's a tip . . . the larger the gap at the end of a movement, the harder it hits.
